The US labor market showed continued flux as employers logged 223 WARN Act notices in July 2012, involving roughly 21,399 workers — falling below June and up 6% versus July 2011. Filings came from 32 states and territories, with an average of 96 workers per notice.

Top States by Workers Affected

Kentucky led the nation with 4,359 workers affected across 17 notices , followed by California (3,836 workers) and Pennsylvania (2,004 workers) .

Industry Breakdown

The Manufacturing sector dominated layoff filings with 7,096 workers across 87 notices. Meanwhile, Transportation reported 3,686 workers.

Layoff Type Analysis

Closures accounted for 32% of all affected workers nationally, with the majority of events being layoffs rather than full closures.

Largest Layoffs
